DEVELOPMENT OF LANDMINE
Government did
not sanction any project for development and production of landmines
between 1984 and 1992.
In the year
1984, a project for swimout mines for Navy for activation range
of 20 km was sanctioned. However, the developed mine was able
to achieve 14 km range of activation.
This information
was given by the Defence Minister Shri George Fernandes in a written
reply to Shri Ramachandra Khuntia in Rajya Sabha today.
DEPLOYMENT
OF TROOPS IN BORDER AREAS
There
is no improvement in the cross-border terrorism abetted by Pakistan.
Accordingly, the Government of India have decided that in order
to meet any exigencies, it would be in the interest of the nation
to continue the deployment of troops, which started from December
19, 2001, on the border. The financial implications of the on-going
deployment of the Armed Forces can be properly assessed only after
the mobilisation is over.
