FIFTY SIX NGOs BLACKLISTED BY SOCIAL JUSTICE & EMPOWERMENT MINISTRY FOR UNSATISFACTORY SERVICE


Fifty six Non Governmental Organisations have been blacklisted and grant-in-aid suspended to three NGOs by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. This was stated by the Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Satyanarayan Jatiya in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today. He said that the action has been taken after it was found on inspection that their delivery of services was not commensurate with the funds released by the Ministry. Dr. Jatiya said that maximum number of 23 NGOs were blacklisted in Uttar Pradesh followed by 13 in Andhra Pradesh, six in Maharashtra, four in Karnataka, three in Rajasthan, two each in Bihar and Orissa and one each in Sikkim, Tamil Nadu and Goa. He said that grant-in-aid has been suspended to three NGOs, one each in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu while the process has been initiated for recovery of mis-utilized grant in case of NGO in Sikkim. Dr. Jatiya said that during 2001-2002, the Ministry provided funds to 2,769 NGOs to carry out welfare activities in various fields of social sector. He said that monitoring and evaluation of performance of the NGOs receiving grant-in-aid is carried out through inspection by the representatives of state governments, nodal agencies and the Ministry's own officials.
