12.5% INCREASE IN TOURIST ARRIVALS

During the period of October, 2002 to June, 2003, the international tourist arrivals to India have increased from 17,70,882 to 19,92,362 which is a growth rate of 12.5%.

To further promote the arrivals the Government is considering number of actions which includes:

  • Proposed opening of India tourism Office in China, Malaysia and Thailand.
  • Enhansed publicity through print and electronic media.
  • Web marketing.
  • Road shows, seminar, press conferences.
  • Production of language brochures and other information materials.
  • Familiarisation visits of media and travel trade under the Hospitality Programme.
  • Participation in tourism fairs/marts and buyer-seller meets.
  • Joint promotions with and support to the tour operators.
  • Consumer promotions, direct mail etc.

This was stated by the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Shri Jagmohan in reply to a question by S/Shri Iqbal Ahmed Saradgi and Ram Mohan Gadde in Lok Sabha today.
