12.5% INCREASE IN TOURIST ARRIVALS
LOK SABHA
During the period
of October, 2002 to June, 2003, the international tourist arrivals
to India have increased from 17,70,882 to 19,92,362 which is a
growth rate of 12.5%.
To further promote
the arrivals the Government is considering number of actions which
includes:
- Proposed opening of India tourism
Office in China, Malaysia and Thailand.
- Enhansed publicity through print
and electronic media.
- Web marketing.
- Road shows, seminar, press conferences.
- Production of language brochures
and other information materials.
- Familiarisation visits of media
and travel trade under the Hospitality Programme.
- Participation in tourism fairs/marts
and buyer-seller meets.
- Joint promotions with and support
to the tour operators.
- Consumer promotions, direct mail
etc.
This was stated
by the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Shri Jagmohan in reply
to a question by S/Shri Iqbal Ahmed Saradgi and Ram Mohan Gadde
in Lok Sabha today.
