TRACK RENEWALS

Indian Railways have renewed 2,043 kilometres of tracks during the first half of the current financial year 2003-2004. The target for the full year is 3,850 kilometres.

To wipe out overdue renewal of assets, a non-lapsable Special Railway Safety Fund (SRSF) has been created in 2001-2002. An allocation of Rs. 7,670 crores out of a total of 17,000 crores SRSF has been made for track renewals.

A programme has been made to wipe out overdue renewals of tracks as existed on April 1, 2001 by April 1, 2007.
