RAILSIDE WAREHOUSING SCHEME
Encouraged by the
success of Whitefield (Bangalore) rail-side warehousing scheme,
with a godown capacity of 15,000 Million Tonnes built by M/s Central
Warehousing Corporation (CWC) in February 2002, Indian Railways
are entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the
CWC, as its strategic partner, for development of similar integrated
rail-side warehouse complexes at 22 locations.
The rail-side warehousing
complexes are to be built by the CWC at its own cost like that
of the Whitefield pilot project. It generated additional revenue
of Rs. 20 crores annually.
The rail-side warehousing
provides integrated seamless services to customers and reduces
the overall logistic costs.
The 22 locations
for development of rail-side warehouse complexes are New Guwahati
(Assam), Changsari (Assam), Shakur Basti (Delhi), Holambikalan
(Delhi), Ambala (Haryana), Rohtak (Haryana), Gangapur City (Rajasthan),
Rajkot (Gujarat), Kalamboli (Navi Mumbai), Pune (Maharashtra),
Nasik (Maharashtra), Hatia (Jharkhand), Mandya (Karnataka), Hassan
(Karnataka), Hubli (Karnataka), Hosur (Karnataka), Dharampuri
(Karnataka), Kottayam (Kerala), Kannur (Kerala), Sambalpur (Orissa),
and Royapuram Chennai (Tamil Nadu).
