Prime Minister's Office

PMO DENIAL

Prime Minister’s Office today denied reports in a section of the media that Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, while addressing the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting here today, said that the United Nations could "die a moral death if it succumbs to pressure from Washington" and that "there is fear that the UN becomes ineffective and dies a moral death if it takes any step under US pressure."

The Prime Minister basically repeated to party MPs what was contained in the address of the President to Parliament yesterday. He added that any action outside the framework of the United Nations against Iraq would be unfortunate for the international community and would erode the moral authority of the U.N.
