RAILWAYS TO ORGANISE TWO-DAY NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON SAFETY


The Union Minister of Railways Shri Nitish Kumar has convened a two-day workshop on railway safety involving ground staff like station masters, drivers, gangmen, pointmen, loco inspectors, loco staff, signalling inspectors, workshop staff and across section of all staff relating to safety on railways.

To be held here on July 12 and13, the five major Unions of Indian Railways, such as Federation of Railway Officers’Associations (FROA), National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR), All India Railwaymen Federation (AIRF), Indian Railway Promotee Officers’ Federation (IRPOF), and Railway Protection Force Association (RPFA) will participate in the brain storming workshop.

The workshop will deliberate on ways and means to contain and reduce train accidents involving casualties. Besides, it will deliberate on infrastructure maintenance, operation practices, rescue and relief systems, training and upgradation of skills and other strenuous factors affecting rail safety. The discussions will be in addition to seminars conducted by zonal railways on the White Paper on railway safety placed in the Parliament by the Minister of Railways Shri Nitish Kumar in April this year.

The findings of the workshop and seminars would help the Government formulate a Corportate Safety Plan as recommended by the Khanna Committee . The proposed plan together with the Special Railway Safety Fund (SRSF) would be the standing guide to the railway employees to maintain high standards of safety and prevent accidents involving casualties.
