RAILWAYS EARNINGS FROM FREIGHT DURING
FIRST QUARTER
The Railways earned
Rs. 6512.04 crores from a total of 133.17 Million Tonnes of revenue
freight during the first quarter of the current financial year
ending June 2003, as compared to Rs. 6388.23 crores during the
corresponding period of the previous year, thus, recording an
increase of 1.94 per cent.
Of the total
earnings, Rs. 2870.17 crores came from coal transportation, Rs.
286.18 crores from raw material to steel plants, Rs. 302.51 crores
from finished iron and steel, Rs. 171.61 crores from iron ore
for exports, Rs. 576 crores from cement, Rs. 753.64 crores from
foodgrains, Rs. 235.78 crores from fertilizers, Rs. 558.91 crores
from Petroleum Oil and Lubricant (POL) and Rs. 757.24 crores from
other goods.
