STEPS TO CHECK CRIMES IN TRAINS
The Railways are
taking several steps to check crimes in trains. Accordingly, anti-social
elements are removed from railway premises and trains by Railway
Protection Force (RPF). Coach Attendants and TTEs keep proper
watch on the passengers entering and detraining from the coaches.
Besides, coaches are locked during their run especially during
night hours.
In addition, wherever
the State Government wants to establish mobile post in the running
trains, necessary facilities are provided. First Information Report
(FIR) forms are made available with the Train Guards, Station
Masters and RPF to facilitate the travelling public to lodge their
reports immediately. RPF Assistance posts are provided at important
stations to assist passengers in lodging FIRs with Government
Railway Police (GRP). Periodic coordination meetings with the
police authority are held to analyse the crime position for taking
suitable preventive measures. Special Intelligence and Crime Intelligence
are shared between RPF and GRP at all levels.
Policing being a
State subject in the Consitition of India, the security of passengers
and their belongings in the running trains is the constitutional
responsibility of the GRP, which functions under the control of
State Government concerned. The cases of crime on the Railways
are, therefore, reported to, registered and investigated by the
GRP.
The Railway administration
coordinates with the GRP to ensure security of the passengers
as the responsibility to curb crimes on trains lies with the State
Governments.
