TELEPHONE AND INTERNET FACILITIES IN TRAINS

The RailTel Corporation of India Ltd., a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Railways, has planned to provide internet kiosks at New Delhi Railway Station and internet service in one of the trains as pilot projects during 2003-2004. The train and route are under finalisation.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Railways has issued detailed guidelines to Zonal Railways for provision of telephone and internet services at railway stations through which rail users can communicate with their near and dear ones on payment of usual charges.

There is, however, no scheme at present, to provide Doordarshan and other TV channels at stations and in trains.

So far, four pairs of Shatabdi Express trains have been provided with telephone services. These are : 2005/2006 New Delhi Kalka Shatabdi Express, 2011/2012 New Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi Express, 2013/2014 new Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi Express and 2029/2030 New Delhi-Amritsar Swarna Shatabdi Express
