LATEST POSITION ON CONCESSION IN TRAIN FARES FOR CERTAIN CATEGORIES OF PATIENTS

Of the six categories of patients, four categories of patients, such as, cancer patients, thalassemia patients, TB or Lupas Valgaris patients and non-infectious leprosy patients can avail themselves of rail fare concessions only when called by recognized hospital for treatment or check-up and return.

For those patients suffering from kidney ailments and heart diseases, rail fare concessions will be admissible when called by recognized hospital for kidney transplant operation or dialysis and return and for heart surgery and return respectively.

For cancer patients travelling alone or with an escort, concessions of 75 per cent in second class, Sleeper Class, First Class, AC Chair Car and Ac 3-Tier and 50 per cent in AC 2-Tier and AC first class are granted. Same facilities are granted to thalassemia, heart and kidney patients. But, for TB or Lupas Valgaris and non-infectious leprosy patients, concession of 75 per cent in second, sleeper and first class is provided. However, non-infectious leprosy patients will not get concession for escort or companion but for self travelling only.

Concession is admissible in Mail and Express fares and not in ordinary fares applicable to passenger trains. Concession is granted only in basic fares and all other charges like reservation fee, superfast surcharge and safety surcharge are realized in full.

Concession will not be available in Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Jan Shatabdi group of trains. Besides, such concession will not be available on season tickets, circular journey tickets, booking of trains or coaches. Except non-infectious leprosy patients, one escort with each patient is also granted the same concession.

The TB or Lupas Valgaris and non-infectious leprosy patients can purchase tickets for AC 2-Tier also on payment of concessional fare of first class plus difference of actual fares of the two classes. Concession is granted at the station, not in the train, on production of the requisite certificate from the concerned recognized hospital where the patient is being treated.
