LATEST POSITION ON CONCESSION IN TRAIN FARES FOR CERTAIN CATEGORIES
OF PATIENTS
Of the six categories
of patients, four categories of patients, such as, cancer patients,
thalassemia patients, TB or Lupas Valgaris patients and
non-infectious leprosy patients can avail themselves of rail fare
concessions only when called by recognized hospital for treatment
or check-up and return.
For those patients
suffering from kidney ailments and heart diseases, rail fare concessions
will be admissible when called by recognized hospital for kidney
transplant operation or dialysis and return and for heart surgery
and return respectively.
For cancer patients
travelling alone or with an escort, concessions of 75 per cent
in second class, Sleeper Class, First Class, AC Chair Car and
Ac 3-Tier and 50 per cent in AC 2-Tier and AC first class are
granted. Same facilities are granted to thalassemia, heart and
kidney patients. But, for TB or Lupas Valgaris and non-infectious
leprosy patients, concession of 75 per cent in second, sleeper
and first class is provided. However, non-infectious leprosy patients
will not get concession for escort or companion but for self travelling
only.
Concession is admissible
in Mail and Express fares and not in ordinary fares applicable
to passenger trains. Concession is granted only in basic fares
and all other charges like reservation fee, superfast surcharge
and safety surcharge are realized in full.
Concession will not
be available in Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Jan Shatabdi group of trains.
Besides, such concession will not be available on season tickets,
circular journey tickets, booking of trains or coaches. Except
non-infectious leprosy patients, one escort with each patient
is also granted the same concession.
The TB or Lupas
Valgaris and non-infectious leprosy patients can purchase
tickets for AC 2-Tier also on payment of concessional fare of
first class plus difference of actual fares of the two classes.
Concession is granted at the station, not in the train, on production
of the requisite certificate from the concerned recognized hospital
where the patient is being treated.
