PROVIDING RAIL LINKS TO STATE CAPITALS IN NORTH EASTERN REGION
Three new rail line
projects have been included in the Railway Budget 2003-2004 to
provide rail connectivity to State Capitals in the North Eastern
Region. These are : Harmuti-Itanagar, Diphu-Karong as first
phase of Broad Gauge line in Imphal and Kumarghat-Agartala.
The work of Kumarghat-Agartala
is in progress. The surveys for alternative alignment for Harmuti-Itanagar
and Diphu-Karong lines have been taken up at the instance
of State Governments of Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur.
The work on these
projects would be taken up based on decision on the alternative
alignments.
