PRESIDENT TO DEDICATE PATNA-GAYA BROAD GAUGE ELECTRIFICATION TO
NATION
The President will
dedicate to the nation 92 kilometrre long Patna-Gaya broad gauge
electrification at Patna Junction on May 30, 2003 with
the flagging off a Mainline Electrical Multiple Unit (MEMU) train.
The function will be presided over by the Chief Minister of Bihar
Shrimati Rabri Devi with the Railway Minister Shri Nitish Kumar
and two Ministers of State for Railways Shri Bandaru Dattatraya
and Shri A.K. Moorthy present, among other VIPs, on the occasion.
Earlier in 2002,
the Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee had laid the foundation
stone for the project.
Built at a cost of
Rs. 36.5 crores in a record time of about one year, the electrification
will provide a faster, eco-friendly and convenient mode of bulk
transport to the daily commuters, especially the tourists depending
on the rail transport in this area. It will also hasten the development
of this region.
Electrification of
this line will obviate the need for change of traction at Patna
for Gaya bound trains and at Gaya for Patna
bound trains. It will also connect two important cities of Bihar,
Patna and Gaya, enhancing the tourist traffic in
this area. Besides, electrification of this section bridges the
gap between two principal routes of East Central Railway, electrified
Grand Chord ‘A’ route and electrified Mainline ‘B’ line.
Advanced signalling
system on this route will provide better visibility to avoid ‘no
light’ condition of the signals, which promises better safety
and reliability.
The Patna-Gaya
electrified line is 92 route kilometer long and 123 track kilometer
long. It has 11 block stations, eight switching stations and optic
fibre cable based telecommunication.
