EXPANSION OF RAIL LINES
Addition of 1340
kilometres of broad gauge lines has been targeted for completion
during the current financial year 2003-2004 under plan head new
lines, gauge conversion and doubling.
The completion
of these broad gauge lines will augment further the rail infrastructure
capacity.
As on April 1,
2002, Indian Railways had a total of 63,140 route kilometres across
the country.
