CRISIS COMMUNICATION FOR DISASTER MANAGEMENT ON RAILWAYS


Indian Railways have embarked upon improving communication aids to manage disaster like situations at train accident sites.

Accordingly, specific four digit Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) telephone number for railway accident information is being provided all over. Besides, satellite phones in Divisions and Zones are being augmented.

Other measures being taken include provision of 5 W Walkie-Talkie sets and 25 W VHF sets in Accident Relief Trains (ARTs), installation of 50 line Wareless in Loop Line (WLL) exchange in Divisional ARTs and Personal Computer (PC) with high speed satellite modem in each Divisional ART to provide internet connectivity.

In addition, video conferencing facilities are also being provided from the site of a train accident.

An efficient communication system to manage the crisis like situations caused by train accidents is intended to make rail services more user friendly.
