ALLOTMENT OF RAILWAY LAND ON LEASE
The Railways provides
its land, if not required for its own immediate needs, on long
term lease only to the Government departments and public sector
undertakings.
The land is leased
for 35 years on payment of 99 per cent of the cost of the land
along with a nominal charge of Rs. 1000 per annum.
Lease of Railway
land to the private sector is, however, not permitted.
Request for land
is considered on case to case basis. Railways on its own do not
offer any land on long term lease basis.
The Railways
have a total of 4.35 lakh hectares of land, out of which 2,000
hectares of land are under unlawful encroachments.
