‘FIRST INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL OF MILLENNIUM TO BE HELD DURING JANUARY 10-20, 2000’

    The Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shri Arun Jaitley said that the 31st International Film Festival of India to be held in New Delhi from January 10-20, 2000 will be the first Festival in the new millennium and all possible steps will be taken to make it a grand success. Speaking at the first meeting of the Organising Committee held here today Shri Jaitley further pointed out that sometimes minor irritants become the main issue and basic content of the event is lost into them. Therefore, there is a need to anticipate such loopholes in advance and take all precautionary measures to make it a memorable event.

    Speaking on the occasion Shri Y.N. Chaturvedi Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, said that 31st International Film Festival of India is unique in the sense that it is the first festival to be organiesd internationally in the new millennium. Special efforts have been made to ensure newness in the Festival reflecting the spirit of the new millennium.

    The Festival is being organised by Directorate of Film Festival, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The Festival Logo has been created with the sun as the symbol of Life and Energy. The programme of the Festival will be divided into five broad categories, namely, Asian Competition; Cinema of the World, Retrospectives/tributes; Indian Panorama and Mainstream Indian Cinema. A seminar will also be organised by FFSI entitled "Cinema in the new Millennium". Several special exhibitions will be set up during the Festival. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has sanctioned a budget of Rs. 1.35 crores. This will be supplemented by State Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi which has contributed Rs. 1.08 crores. The inaugural function of the 31st Festival will be held on the evening of 10th January, 2000 at Siri Fort Auditorium. The meeting was attended by among others by Smt. Sheila Dikshit Chief Minister of National Capital Territory of Delhi, Principal Information Officer, Press Information Bureau, Smt. N.J. Krishna apart from representatives of Government of India, State Government and film industry.
