POSTMEN IN THE MOUNTAINS 1999, COLOR, 35mm China Against the backdrop of the dawn mist of South China appears a broad outline of an array of village houses. A lit window forebodes the wakening of the whole village. A well-packed mailbag lies on the table. The Father tells his Son to go with him. The mailbag for the first time is transferred from Fathers shoulder to the Sons. This will be the last time the Father will go to the mountains to deliver mails. Unable to say goodbye to his job, he accompanies his Son. He wants to tell so many things to his Son, but he cannot tell. Son is on his first mission, first also to go with his Father. Fathers image has always been high in his heart. What shocks him is the mountain road that never seem to end. It reminds him of the vicissitudes of his fathers life, of what his mother has done in all the waiting and expecting. The meaning of life is clearer to him now. The distance between Father and Son disappear as Son takes him on his back. Waiting in the house is the Mother with her sweet and caring smile.
