Synopsis  (Feature)

SUE

95 mnts.

Sue is an invisible New Yorker. A  fading beauty in her 40s. She lives alone. She finds solace in anonymous sex with strangers.

Her vividly documented nymphomania carries a strong component of prarient interest – Thompson makes her convincing through her complete identification with the role.

Kollek doesn’t always resist the temptations of easy pathos, though he treats the film’s central crisis – Sue’s unconscious destruction of a genuinely promising relationship with a younger man (Mathew Powers) – without passing simple judgments.

Following the logic of her personality to its end, Sue earns our respect rather than our pity.
