Synopsis  (Country : Malaysian)

Jogho

100 mins/1997

Mamat left his native Malaysia many years ago to join his older brother Lazim in Thailand where he wanted to make a living as a jogho, a trainer of fighting bulls.  Mamat and Lazim are the leaders in a small village that depends on the money won from gambling on bullfights. Survival is difficult and Mamat’s wife complains that more money goes towards feeding the bull than feeding the family.  But Mamat lives and breathes his job, taking great pride in the art of training the bulls to fight.  Trouble ensues when Lazim is killed by rival Malays at the bullfighting arena.  Mamat and other villagers are compelled to take revenge to preserve the honour of their village. Then Lazim’s sons go into town and kill Isa’s son and Mamat is arrested in their stead by the Thai police.  Mamat is released in time to see the new bull he has been training go into a fight…
