Renata is smart, shy, repressed and 13.  Her father is the sheriff of tiny Wilbur Falls; her mother is a New Age street junkie and Renata has a mad crush on Jeffrey but he would not give a geekly girl like her the time of day.  When Jeffrey asks her to a dance, Renata thinks that fate has finally decided to smile on her, but she quickly learns that it is actually frowning: the date turns into a horrible prank and the worst night of her life.  Four years later, Renata is now the class valedictorian and headed for Harvard. Her father has meanwhile lost his job.
Renata and best friend Arnie decide in the last few weeks of school that it is pay back time for all those kids who had made their lives miserable in the last four years.  At the top of Renata’s list is Jeffrey…
