Synopsis  (Country : France)

Stephane is on a quest to find the gypsy singer, Nora Luca, who sang a song that has haunted him since his childhood.  On a cold winter night in Romania, he meets up with the gypsy fiddler Isidor, who is grieving because his son has been jailed by the townspeople.  Isidor takes the Parisian Stephane under his wing in the hope of enlisting his aid to free his son.
Before long, Stephane is living in Isidor’s village and learning about gypsy culture through events that highlight the intense emotional ties that bind the community.

Tony Gatlif was born in Algeria in 1948 and moved to France at the age of 4. He made his directorial debut with La Tete en Ruines at age 19.  His recent films include Gaspard et Robinson (1990), Latcho Drom (1994) and Mondo (1995).
