Synopsis  (Country : Japan)

Postman Blues

110 mins/1997

Sawaki is a conscientious postman.  On his evening round, he visits Noguchi, who has just chopped off his little finger to be admitted to a Yakuza gang.  The finger rolls off the table into Sawaki’s mail bag.
When Sawaki opens the mail that evening in a testy and drunken fit, he reads a letter from a girl named Sayoko who is dying of cancer and promptly rushes to her bedside where he is befriended by a professional hit man called Joe.  In the process, he loses Noguchi’s  little finger.  That is a problem because Noguch’s Yokuza boss wants the finger to prevent Noguchi from getting it put back later in secret.  Meanwhile, the police are keeping a close watch on Noguchi’s house.  In the span of a day, postman Sawaki turns into the main suspect in a murder and drugs case.
