Synopsis  (Country : Japan)

After Life

118 mins/1998

This is a story about memories and happiness, even if it deals with the world of the dead. Through Mochizuki who works in Limbo (that ambiguous place between life and the world beyond), septagenarian Watanabe who did not know Mochizuki when he was alive, and Kyoko who was Watanabe’s wife, we see the happiest moments of the dead.

Watanabe reminds Mochizuki about Kyoko 40 years ago. Mochizuki recollects how Kyoko had cherished him in her heart but realises that his happiest moments are the ones he shares with the workers in Limbo...Leaving the theatre, members of the audience may ask themselves, "Which was the happiest moment of my life?"
