Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels

Set in a grubby, working-class armpit of London’s East End the complex story centers on four layabouts who cook up a scheme to make some big money. The plan is for cardsharp Eddy to enter a card game with gangster and porn king Hatchet Harry.

But things go drastically wrong during the game – staged in a boxing ring and shot with virtuoso camera work. Eddy ends up owing Harry half a million pounds. Harry’s hidden goal, however is to take over a bar run by his archenemy J.D. – who’s none other than Eddy’s dad!

Twenty-nine year old Guy Ritchie grew up in London and started his film career as a runner in 1993. Must have been on the fast track, because soon he was directing music promos for bands and commercials. With the profits from these, Ritchie invested them in a 20-minute short, The Hard Case, which in turn led to Lock, Stock…

Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, which he saw as a kid, was his inspiration, says Ritchie.
