S. Chandhini of Mother Middle
School, Puducherry was
given the first prize for her expression on energy conservation/energy
efficiency. Union Minister for Power, Shri Sushilkumar Shinde gave away the prizes here today to the winners of
the National Painting Competition organized by the Ministry of Power and Bureau
of Energy Efficiency for creating awareness regarding energy conservation
activities. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Shinde noted that the National Painting Competition has been a
resounding success with over 9 lakh students from all
over the country having participated.
Terming them as very important stakeholders in this endeavour,
the Minister observed that they are the future leaders of this nation and hence
must carry forward the agenda by becoming an integral part of the
energy conservation family and ambassadors to spread this important message.

About 9 lakh school children participated in the School Level
Painting Competition held in August-November 2009 all over the country. 1,750 school children were selected among
them for participating in the State/UT Level Painting Competition on 14th
November 2009 in State Capital/UT. 105
children selected from this competition participated in the National
Competition. The prize winning paintings were displayed at the function venue
at Vigyan Bhawan.
The Ministry of Power and Bureau of Energy
Efficiency launched the National Awareness Campaign in order to promote energy
conservation in the country. Painting
competition for students at the school, State and at National level has been
included as one of the activities of the campaign, which would not only make
the children aware about the need for conserving energy, but at the same time
would also educate and involve their parents as well in this cause. The competition aims to motivate children
towards thinking about energy conservation, and offers them a chance to explore
their creativity.
